Game Dev – Vertical Slice

A vertical slice is a small part of the game that uses final quality assets and final code. It aims to show how the entire game is going to look, feel, and play. After this, the next step is usually producing the entire game (although gameplay and visual changes could still be made based on player feedback).

One could see a vertical slice as a tasty carpaccio: a thin delicacy that leaves you wanting for more. It’s often a great tool to show off a simple game idea to investors or to a target audience.

Next up is production. The game concept is fixed, programming groundwork is finished, now it’s time to chuck out content for the game.
